Mamelodi Sundowns have released an emotional video of former captain Hlompho Kekana earlier this week when he bid farewell to his teammates after it was announced that Mr Kekana is leaving the football club after he had spent over a decade. In the video Hlompho congratulated his ex-fellow teammates for winning the MTN8 cup recently, although he was not part of the match but he felt proud of being a part of the team as their captain previously.

During his reign as a captain at Sundowns, Kekana provided assistance for the ‘Brazilians’ to win six league titles, the 2016 CAF Champions League and the 2017 CAF Super League amongst other numerous trophies. Hlompho also won two successive league titles at SuperSport United under the coach Gavin Hunt before he moved to Sundowns, and he also represented the national team during the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt in 2019 and he is one of the most decorated players in the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

Former Mamelodi Sundowns and current Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane also paid tribute to Hlompho Kekana. The Reigning DSTV Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns announced that the club had come to an amicable consensus with Hlompho Kekana who happened to be their long-time captain. The midfielder departs at the Chloorkop headquarters as the captain who had more than 350 appearances for Amasandawana.

It is clearly depicted that Hlompho Kekana will be dearly missed by the team, and he has set the bar high for the current captain for Mamelodi Sundowns and other teams which he truly inspired.
